Haytor Blush

'Haytor Blush'

Mount size to fit a standard frame 9" x 7"
Painting size 6" x 4"

Haytor Blush' was inspired by a recent visit to Haytor on Dartmoor, Devon.

Quite often the rain moves in very quickly on Dartmoor and this was the case just as I had arrived up at the big rocks at Haytor....I took shelter for a little while in a small granite recess. I'm probably quite unusual in that I often enjoy seeing the rain across a landscape as it can be quite atmospheric. The special treat of the day though was when the rain came to a halt and then the most beautiful sunset colours appeared in the sky, a subtle blush pink danced amongst the granite rocks, what an unexpected contrast that was...harsh granite kissed by the warm glow of the fading light. Being out in nature can really lift your spirits and the simplest of pleasures can be found just observing and being present in the moment.

I have also shown my sketchbooks and preparatory work for this painting in the 'artist's studio' section as I would like to give you a glimpse of what goes into each painting and the process involved...the outdoor sketching, the interpretation of what motivated me to paint, the tonal values, composition and also the colours that best represent the mood and visual impact that I aim to convey...
