Artist Profile
I was born in Croydon, Surrey and as soon as I was given paints and crayons to play with I happily drew and splashed paint around for hours.....My earliest recollections of being fascinated by paint and colour were at my parents' white kitchen table where I used to drop liquid paints into water droplets that I had scattered across the table. I used to love watching the colours merge and swirl around and I'm still captivated to this day by seeing the flow of pigment into water across the paper.
My approach to watercolour painting is a collaboration with the pigments and myself....I love the spontaneity of letting the pigments flow and then working mindfully to achieve the visual impact and emotion that I wish to express.
During my teenage years I continued to develop my painting skills and finished my 'A' Level art qualifications a year earlier than expected. After leaving school I joined the Family business and learnt learnt the craft of leather repairs. I continued for 17 years whilst still immersing myself in my passion to paint in my spare time and was delighted to win the winsor and Newton award at Westminster Galleries, London at the first S.A.A exhibition. I was also later selected by the Society of Wildlife Artists to exhibit in their annual exhibitions at the Mall Galleries in London. In 2010 I was the winner in the seascape category at the SAA exhibition in London.
When my Father retired in 2001 I decided to move to Norfolk as I was attracted by the big open skies and the unspoilt coastline. I became a professional painter and held exhibitions throughout the country and taught art classes for several years.
I returned to Kent in 2008, so that I could care for my Father as his health had deteriorated and I continued to paint when time allowed. Since my Father has now sadly passed away I have relocated to Devon, a beautiful county which provides me with renewed painting inspiration.
