Resting Avocets

This was painted from a series of sketches that I drew in the bird hide in Titchwell Nature Reserve. Drawing birds is quite a challenge as they are constantly preening and on the move, as soon as my pencil touched the paper they would be off, leaving me feeling frustrated, with a sketchbook full of half finished birds! This group of Avocets however finally came to rest, allowing me to sketch long enough so that I could put this painting together when I got back to my studio.
